Bane lengthened his stride to a smooth lope. The air felt cool rushing over him, but it was heavy and bitter with an unidentifiable hint of death that seemed to tinge the whole world nowadays. To his left, over the slick black ocean, a full moon was rising.
The tide was fully in, and the briny shallows occasionally licked at his paws. His blood ran feverishly hot this night, as it did in every wolf. The sight and feel of the full moon brought a strange kind of high upon the species. It pulled at their blood as it did the ocean, driving them to an intense, almost passionate mood. Whether they were angry, sad, or happy, the mood seemed amplified threefold by the presence of a full moon.
Now as Bane slipped along the seaside, he greeted the feeling. He closed his eyes and ran harder, willing himself into the shadows. Before long he was merely a racing blur of shadow, dancing from wave to wave and eating the pearly white reflection of the moon wherever he touched it.
His thoughts were on company, and whether or not anyone else ever felt the aching emptiness he felt. When he turned to shade the feeling seemed to disappear somewhere... But the rest of the time, there was a constant nag of longing nipping at the back of his mind. He had never been with another... Friend, Mate, or otherwise... So why was it that he should miss it? He supposed that socialization was just a natural want. Nonetheless, it was inconvenient, and now Bane just wanted to forget it. He stayed in the shadows as long as he could, dreading the return to his wolf form and the feelings that resided there.
